New Chief Executive Officer for GAC

The Board of the Gladstone Airport Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Peter Friel to the position of Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Friel is currently Airport Manager at Devonport Airport in Tasmania, and brings over 12 years’ experience in Airport commercial and operations management to the Gladstone Airport CEO role.

He has worked in airports in various locations around regional Australia including Moranbah and Cairns in Queensland.

With a diverse and extensive history in aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenue management, airside operations, process improvement, safety and compliance, Mr Friel’s appointment ushers in a phase of consolidation at Gladstone after what had been a period of significant investment associated with the construction phase of the region’s LNG industry.

With the focus now shifting to catering for organic growth in the region, the priority for the new CEO will be on improving service delivery and the customer experience at Gladstone Airport.

Mr Friel will take up the position of Chief Executive Officer in early January 2017.

Media Release – 30 May 2016

At its Board meeting today Gladstone Airport Corporation (GAC) approved payment of almost $1.7M to the Gladstone Regional Council (GRC).

This is the first of three annual payments that will be made in respect of tax equivalents and competitive neutrality fees by the GAC.

“GAC as a corporation does not pay tax to the federal Government and the Australian Taxation Office, but must pay the equivalent of corporate taxes to its shareholder GRC.”

“GAC Chairman David Hamill said this payment represents a return to ratepayers based on the profitable operation of their airport.”

Dr Hamill also advised that the Board had received the resignation of Phillip Cash as the CEO of GAC and would be seeking a successor.

“Mr Cash is a highly experienced airport manager who has made a significant contribution to the airport both in terms of its facilities and operations during the four years in which he fulfilled that role. We wish him well for the future”.

The Board has appointed Mr Terry Dower, an experienced operations manager in the capacity of interim CEO in order to ensure the continued safe and smooth running of the airport whilst we seek a permanent successor to Mr Cash.
